Email Components

The CDONTS, CDOSYS, w3 JMail, Persists AspEmail, or Sever Objects AspMail, component must be installed on the web server in order to send e-mails using this application.

IMPORTANT: If an invalid component is selected and there is a reminder trying to be sent, the application will LOCK. You will have to reinstall application or manually open the database and delete the reminder until a valid email component is selected.


Note about Email Components
Due to the increased use of spam filters, not all servers have emailing components installed.

Majority of web hosts DO NOT allow the use of mailing lists or bulk email.

Check your server for information on emailing components.

Which Email Component is Installed on your server?

I don't know. So don't email and ask me.

1. Try the "Rule of Thumb"

   If you are unsure and want to try the guess method, choose a mailing component, go to an event, click on email to a friend and try to send it to yourself. If you get an error message then that component is not valid. DO NOT ADD REMINDERS, APPLICATION WILL LOCK

   RULE OF THUMB

   • Windows Win2k and XP Pro Servers - CDOSYS installed by default.
   • Windows NT4 and Win2k users - IIS 4 and 5 installs the CDONTS e-mail component by default, but you need the SMTP server that comes with IIS installed on the web server as well (This is the e-mail component that most web hosts will use).
   • Windows 9x Servers - Does not support the CDOSYS or CDONTS e-mail components.
   • JMail e-mail component is free and can run on Win98, NT4, and Win2k, Win XP. Must be installed on server itself.
      
2. View any server documentation that your web provider may have provided you with what component are installed or check their website for mailing components installed.
    
3. Finally if you are still unsure, contact your server administrator
